“Leticia Bernaus, a photographer and experimental filmmaker of confident precision, broadens her environmental and viewer interaction by installations of lens-based work. Bernaus places herself as a figure in site-specific performance and scenes, repetitively provoking the absurd and familiar.”

Asha Iman Veal, curator of Preview 9, A Boldness to Dare and Try, Chicago Artists Coalition, 2019

2 minutes excerpt series of video performances / multiple channels video installation with sound
Duration: 9 minutes, continuous loop

Our hands are vessels of wisdom, acting as permeable sensors that both shape and nourish the reality around us. They connect us to our environment while simultaneously nurturing our sense of self. NOT EXACTLY LOVE emerges from a desire to transcend the confines of the mind and the detached gaze of the camera, prioritizing touch as a vital means of connection and recognition in our world.

Is it possible to decentralize the human experience and recognize the non-human as a crucial agent in our existence? Can a society in decline cultivate new sensitivities capable of igniting a paradigm shift? NOT EXACTLY LOVE is a series of video performances where I intervene in specific environments and engage intimately with various elements by caressing them. This work highlights the hierarchies we impose, our disconnection from the environment, and the profound consequences of our actions on the world around us.
